May Newsletter

Beautiful Crewsletter subscribers: welcome to May. An exciting month ahead for us - this weekend is the May Bank Holiday weekend which means Riverfest craic in the sun down on Thomas St and we're also off to Happy Days festival at Rascal's in Dublin for two days of slinging pints and spreading the good word of Crew in the big smoke. There's still some tickets floating around for the Sunday session if anyone fancies a day out full of food, pints and tunes. As for the newsletter, this month Eloise is chatting to this month's Human of Crew our very own Diego ahead of the very sad countdown to him heading back home to Costa Rica. We also have some pretty exciting beers for you including our 100th beer release which is out right now in the taproom.

Read on, enjoy and I'll catch you soon,

Jono

Beer of the Month

Friends, family, kith, kin, acquaintances, colleagues, buddies, pals... customers? However you define our relationships, we are all connected by the beers brewed and served in our little community space in the heart of Limerick.

Big month for beers with our 99th, 100th, and 101st unique recipes released! Crew favourites Polly and Silly Gose selling fast, and selling out (its coming back soon) and a wee teeny tiny bit of our Lil' Malty Guy left.

New stuffs include Goldcrest (big up the tiny birds) An easy drinking session IPA, low alcohol, low bitterness, big flavour! Orangey citrus and stone fruit upfront with some floral notes on the finish.

With A Flake, beer 99, get it? Ice cream stout (totally a real thing, don't look it up) we loaded this one with milk sugar, cacao nibs, and vanilla for a decadent creamy experience. Don't miss this one.

Half Nelson, for the wrestling fans, or the Simpsons fans, or the delicious hazy pale ale fans. Sound like you? Mere sure. Half the hops in this were nelson sauvin which makes lovely passion fruit and tropical aroma and flavour.

The really big dog this month our 100th recipe is Hundo P, a Double IPA that is dangerously drinkable and refreshing. The punchy tropical fruit and citrus of our hazies with a smooth earthy finish, they'll be talking about this one for a while (the day after with big heads on them probably)

Side note. Our latest crew member Alex once lost his hundo p privileges for getting one too many facts wrong and was only allowed to be ninto-ninto p for quite some time. His hundo p privileges have since been reinstated, so come listen to some animal facts and drink some beer. See you soon. Joel xx

(Still waiting on the cool art)

Humans of Crew

Every month Eloise will be chatting to some of the amazing people who pass through our door. This month, Eloise talked to Diego.

Luis Diego Hernandez is an Electrical Engineer, Musician and the Costa Rican Apple of Crew’s eye. He joined our team in September of 2023 and has been bringing joy and love to our little brewery ever since. It is our absolute pride and pleasure to have him as our Human of Crew this month.

Tell us a bit about yourself?
It is always difficult to say something about yourself, but I have always liked to dream since it is something that keeps you focused in this world and I have been turning these dreams into goals. But anyway, I am a 28-year-old young man named Luis Diego. Luis is because of my father who was an excellent man. I am from Costa Rica where the Pura Vida abounds, which is a slogan typical of my country that simplifies our lifestyle in a single sentence. I love the warm climate hahaha, which is why I have always been cold in this beautiful country and in this incredible city. I love playing guitar because it makes me forget everything for a moment. In short, this is Diego.

How have you enjoyed your time in Ireland?
I have enjoyed meeting people and exploring places. But meeting people, specifically in crew, has changed my life for the better since everyone has helped me with my goal of learning the language and improving every day. Even sharing with the group that comes practising Irish on Thursdays, has helped since they motivate me to continue learning this beautiful language. I mean English. In my case, Irish is very complicated for me at the moment haha

What are some of the things you have learned about Ireland that you like?
There are several, but in summary, being patient and knowing how to wait for moments has been key, since coming alone to another country is a little difficult at first.

How has your relationship with craft beer grown over the past 8 months?
From having little knowledge of beer culture before coming to Crew, I can say that craft beer teaches you to awaken qualities and senses which are dormant. Knowing the different styles and flavours they have, and now having a craft beer just to try it. But you enjoy it and you know what each one means.

What do you like about Crew?
“Brewed by friends Drunk by friends” is the phrase that best represents what I like since everyone here becomes friends and over time family where they support you in difficult moments. Where if you have a question everyone tries to help you, where there are no signs and you can be with peace of mind and feel safe, that is why crew has become my safe and favourite place in this beautiful country.

What new beer styles do you enjoy?
Hundo P is spectacular, however Lemon Verbena Gose is my favourite by far. But Jono has us always waiting for the next great beer.

What are your 3 desert island beers?
Lemon Verbena Gose, Polly and Acapulco Gold because it was my first beer here in Crew and it was really nice. Without further ado, I thank all the friends in Crew and everyone who works in Crew for becoming a family to me.

Dogs of Crew

Welcome to our monthly Doggo of Crew interview. This month, we speak to the delightful Gus.

Tell us a little bit about yourself!
My name is Gus, I’m a 10 year old springer x lab and I love me some treats. I live in Clare with my Mommy but my Molly lives in Limerick (I always hear them saying they have “split custody”) so I visit Limerick a lot. Molly is my Mommy’s daughter but I’m not Molly’s brother… everyone just calls me baby… it’s all a bit confusing.

How did you meet your hoomans?
I was in a place called ‘Clare Animal Welfare’ when I was a little puppy and Mommy and Molly came in to see me. I snuggled up and cuddled Molly and next thing I was home!

How did you get your name?
Everyone calls me Gus my real name is actually Augustus! Molly really loved a book called “The Fault in Our Stars” and kept saying now she had her own little Gus. Some people call me Gustopher but I really don’t like that… but I like my other nicknames like cutie, cutie patootie, Gussy, Gussy Wussy, little baby, best boy, bestest boy, and little cutie pie.

What are your favourite hobbies?
What are your favourite hobbies?
I really love doing tricks like whispering, playing dead, and spinning. I love swimming, even though it took me a really long time to get the hang of it. I love going on little walks, especially when Molly and Aaron bring me to Crew. I love cuddles on the couch and make sure I make it really dramatic when I cuddle up to a friend. My most favouritest thing to do is poke people when I want something! It always makes hoomans laugh. Oh… and barking at those e-scooters, that’s fun!

What's your favourite thing about Crew?
Everyone in Crew gives me pats!! But my absolute favourite thing about Crew is when Emma wiggles my butt and gives me scritches.

Would you like to shout out any friends?
I want to say hi to my pal Púca and my almost pal Peanut, who Molly always says I’m gonna meet really soon!

Tell us a fun fact to finish us off!
One time Molly was trying to get my paw print on paper so she could get a tattoo of it. She put my paw in some dark paint and I didn’t like it so I ran away from her. It was okay though cause I got paw prints all over the house. I think that’s what she wanted?

OH and hi to Xestia!!!

AND HI TO WILLOW

Thanks to everyone who subscribes and reads these newsletters every month. We wouldn't be here without you; can't wait for more craic, chats, and pints this coming month.
